African American Art History (K-5)

Students will explore major themes of African American history by analyzing and recreating crafts and artwork inspired by various African American artists from the 17th century to modern day. This will be a 30-min. virtual class released via Facebook Live on Wednesday mornings for 30 weeks.

About the event

Cost: $20 per student/per month  /  Discount available for families of 3 or more: $50 per family/per month

Starting with the artwork from the 17th century American slave trade and ending with artwork from the current 2020 Black Lives Matter movement, students will not only learn how art can influence a community, but will specifically explore how African American art has radically shaped the American society and the world. 

This class meets for 30 weeks (Sept. 2, 2020 - May 5, 2021).  You will be provided with a list of needed materials upon registration.  The full class outline will be given to you at the Welcome Back Drive-Thru in August.  Please register for that event as well.  

Note to Parents:  Sensitive topics such as race, racism, discrimination, prejudice, and segregation will be discussed in this class.
